First Year In College

Final are next week, so stressful! My first year in college it almost over, I feel like I have progressed so much over this school year. When I first stated college I had no idea what to expect. In high there was not a lot of homework and everyone around was pretty much the same, they shared the same religion, the same views, the same culture. Here at Lewis, that all changed, I love being surrounded by diversity, since where I am from there was none of that. I created new friendships that will last and learned new things about me as a independent person. I will not lie college is an adjustment that you need to find a balance quickly, coming to study and swim was a big stresser, I always felt out of time. But the challenges I faced and the achievements I made have been worth my time here. College has taught me a lot and I hope to continue learning new things that will help me know me better and know the outside world better. Overall freshmen was enlightening and I can not wait to see what sophomore year brings.

    I completely agree with you in that high school was nothing like college. Although you get to pick your own schedule and timings, you're assigned more work that ends up taking more time than high school would have. But yeah, I've also learned a lot throughout the year and I think its cool that you're excited for next year

    My high school was pretty diverse but even when I came here I met a lot of different people. I’ve definitely found myself procrastinating and I need to manage my time better.

Why I swim?

I started swimming around 11 years ago. One summer I decided to join a local YMCA swim team and fell in love with the how accepting the team was and the competition, with the fact that swimming is considered a team sport, but at the same time can compete individually. Going swimming was my favorite part of my day. I loved everything about it, the way it made me feel when I would exercise, on how it would get rid of the stress that was inside, it would just disappear. Along with noticing a difference in my mood when I did compared to when I did not swim.  At the same time, while swimming I felt relaxed and had comfort. The Hunting Ground

Watching the documentary, The Hunting Ground, the scene that affected me the most was when a female student from St Mary, Notre Dame University, was being interviewed and was asked to share her tragic experience. She went in detail on how she was a freshman as the time, it was just her first week living on campus. She was the type of girl to stay in on the weekends and that kept to herself. A group of her friends decided to go to a party and drink, but then she got a text from a group of friends that there was party at this student’s house and to come. She decided to go thinking there would be lots of people there, but when she got there if was just her and a couple of guys, that were the roommates. The roommates soon left them alone and she started to feel uncomfortable. Then, that is when it happened, she was raped.
